Improv and Design Thinking are best friends. They both love co-creation, collaboration, and working through uncertainty to find creative solutions. There are many good resources to guide the process of design thinking, but improvisation is perfectly positioned to helps foster the mindset that is required to fully engage in design thinking. Improvisation exercises provide the brain with practice responding to uncertainty under conditions that promote healthy adaptation and growth. In this experiential session participants will develop their abilities to:

  • Empathize more deeply
  • Increase camaraderie & collaboration
  • Remove barriers to creative thinking, and
  • Get comfortable with ambiguity

Cost: $30

Ages: 17+

Instructor Bio: Maria Meschi’s background contains such diverse roles as parade float artist, video producer, event planner, graphic designer, and social media marketing maven; she draws upon all of these experiences to make creative connections between what is and what could be. Maria is also a versatile improviser and actor who has been performing for over 25 years. Currently a student in the Herron School of Art and Design’s MFA program, she is studying design thinking, facilitation and leadership. Her passion is the intersection of design and improvisation - how might designers communicate like improvisers? And how might improvisers help them get there?
